SACLA CALL TO PRAYER

FOR SOUTH AFRICA

(NO 7: FIRST QUARTER 2006)

OVERVIEW:

INTERCESSION FOR SOUTH AFRICA: Pray and mobilise so that THIS CALL TO PRAYER FOR SOUTH AFRICA will reach and be prayed for in one accord by millions of pray-ers/intercessors in SOUTH AFRICA.

The items for prayer for South Africa are divided into two parts:

A: Prayer items for South Africa which SACLA (South African Christian Leaders Assembly) CALLS ALL SOUTH AFRICAN CHRISTIANS to pray for.

B: Prayer items for SACLA: Please pray for the SACLA initiatives should the Lord lead you to do so.

A: PRAY FOR SOUTH AFRICA

  1. Local Elections: Specifically pray for the political processes as South Africa prepares for the March local elections so that many good leaders (of all parties) may be elected. Pray for peaceful elections and that everyone will vote.

  1. South Africa: Pray for God’s blessing over South Africa and its people (Jer 29:7). Pray that God’s Kingdom will come and His will be done in South Africa.

  1. Leaders: Pray for all leaders in South Africa according to 1 Tim 2:1-2. Specifically pray for president, cabinet and members of parliament, and premiers of the provinces, religious and business leaders. Let us also pray for the leaders of opposition groups and parties.

  1. Pray that the Lord will assist His Church to become relevant in SA.

  1. Lost: Pray for those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Saviour in South Africa. Pray for the preparation and gathering of the harvest. Pray for those working to gather the harvest. (1 Tim 2:3-6).

  1. Dissatisfaction: More and more reports speak of a general dissatisfaction amongst people for different reasons: political promises that are perceived as not kept; ethnic divides resurfacing; uncertainty about the identity of the next president and so on. Pray that the Lord will bring and keep peace and calm amongst our people. Therefore we should pray according to 1 Tim 2:1-3 – the promise is in verse 2!

  1. Giants: Let us continue steadfastly to pray for breakthroughs concerning the following “giants” (Num 13:33, 14:9) in our society: HIV/Aids; crime, corruption and violence; the crisis in the family; the deterioration of morals (a “new” giant); poverty and unemployment; sexism and racism (Excellent prayer material including prayer based on scripture is available from the 40 days of prayer Project & Cry Mercy Project – www.jwipn.com; 012 365 3214)

8.THE WAR AGAINST THE LEGALISATION OF SAME-SEX MARRIAGES:The battle in the Constitutional Court was lost on 1 December 2005. Parliament has been instructed to do the necessary legislative changes.

So the war now shifts to Parliament and that is where our intercessory focus should be from now on.Pray for the Lord’s wisdom for our political authorities as the subject of same-sex marriages is debated in the parliamentary process on its way to becoming law.Pray for the Lord’s intervention on behalf of His Church.

Pray for the Marriage Alliance of South Africa (MASA) under the Co-chairmanship of Dr Michael Cassidy, Cardinal Wilfrid Napier, and Rev Moss Nthla as they contemplate further action in their work to preserve the Biblical and traditional definition of marriage.

  1. Identificational Repentance: Pray that God will forgive sin in South Africa. Let us in this period specifically continue to repent of the sin of SEXUAL IMMORALITY in all its forms in South Africa. Specifically repent of the way Christians in SA have sinned against the covenant of marriage as introduced by the Lord – fornication outside of marriage and adultery in marriage.

10.Rain: Thanks to the Lord for His blessing of rain over large parts ofour country.Pray for rain in areas still suffering from drought. Pray for protection against natural disasters such as storm wind, lightning and floods.
